STaSIS/Alcon brake systems
My brake system upgrade arrived at Achtuning today. I choose to go with the STaSIS/Alcon 370mm (14.5") 6 piston front kit and the 305mm (13.0") rear rotor upgrade. The kit includes rotors, pads, Motul 5.1 fluid and Goodridge stainless steel lines, and necessary hardware. I took the time to weigh the new brake system components: Front carrier - 1.4lbs Rear carrier - 0.6lbs Front Alcon rotors 14.5" - 14.5lbs B6 S4 OEM 12.25" - 26lbs Rear Alcon rotors 13.0" -13.3lbs OEM 10.0" - 9.4lbs Front Alcon 6 piston calipers: 7.8lbs
2008 Audi Club Northwest Winter Driving Clinic
The recent snowfall has many people hiding indoors, but for motorsports enthusiasts...what better environment could you ask for? I had the opportunity to attend Audi Club Northwest's winter driving clinic at Bremerton Motorsports Park. It was an absolute blast.
What did I take away from the event? If you live in a potetial snowy area you should prep and clean your car for the winter. Don't run summer tires as the rubber hardens during the cooler winter months. Do not run all seasons winter tires at a lower PSI; it is a myth that you should underinflate tires for more traction. This is especially true with AWD.
When you're cleaning snow off your car, remove it from the ...
OEM S6 LEDs an an Oettinger front bumper
Here's all the information you will need if you want to do it: Parts and approximate cost $1000 - Oettinger front bumper $375 - OEM S6 LEDs $75? - B6 A4 tow hook, washer caps (x 2) $65 - S6 LED Harness PN: 4F0 940 068 A You will need misc relays, wires, and switches. Dimensions 20" long 3" wide 5.5" deep Expect to spend a LOT for custom fabrication, this is NOT a DIY job. I did not factor paint into the costs either. The lights are wired to a Bosch relay. When you unlock the car, there's a 12+ accessory. This remains live until the car is locked. The relay has power until the ignition is off, and the car is locked. Essentially, this allows me to have DRLs that turn on when the car ...
Blacked out B7 ecodes
I don't like how stock B7 headlights look. Instead my buddy Rice helped me clear corner and black out the existing headlights. As an added touch, I was able to source a set of B6 ecode caps and fit them to the B7 headlights.
Kerscher sideskirts on the B6 S4
Some photos from the installation of the Kerscher sideskirts. Notice the OEM B6 S4 doorblades don't flow very well with them?
STaSIS 4:1 center differential
After a few weeks in the shop, we installed the STaSIS 4:1 center differential on my B6 S4. The stock differential provides 2:1 torque distribution, with the modified STaSIS unit we’re able to provide 4:1 just like the B7 RS4. I have not had a chance to take the car to an HPDE yet, but I have noticed an immediate difference coming out of the apex of a corner. Typically when you’re exiting, the car begins to under-steer; with the diff the moment you begin to under-steer the power is transferred from the front to the rear and we can neutralize some of this under-steer. There has been no odd behavior from ESP or ABS. The only thing I’ve noticed post-diff has been some Quattro binding at low speed turning, ...
