The accident
Sometime in Feburary of 2008 my car was vandalized SuperBowl weekend. They destroyed the entire exterior of the car. My initial insurance estimate shows the replacement of the front fenders and one of the quarter panels. The entire car would have to be repainted. What drives people do so such a thing, I don't know.
It was around this time I toyed with the idea of a full conversion. If I were to respray the car and sell it, I wouldn't have come out ahead because the car has depreciated so much, and seriously, what a waste of a brand new paint job. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I already had the car dialed in with the mods; I didn't really want to pull them all off and reinstall them into a new car.
I suppose I could have sold it and bought an RS4, but that's not really want I wanted. At the time, the tuning potential for the RS4 was limited and the B6/B7 S4 tuning market was steadily growing. After talking with some friends who went from their S4s to RS4s the general conesus was that while the RS4 was slightly faster, I shouldn't be making the switch for that sole purpose.
In the end, I decided a widebody conversion was the way to go. I'm not trying to imitate an RS4, it just happens OEM widebody parts and panels are available but exclusive to the RS4.
Here are six photos of the damage, I have over 50 of them.
