The project delivery method is the process by which a project is comprehensively designed, rnprocured and constructed. Design-Build is a method which an owner deliver both design andrnconstruction responsibility for a single firm. An important issue associated with Design-Buildrndelivery method is that time savings, cost certainty and owner is free from both design andrnconstruction risks. Also it maximizes the contractor‘s ability to use innovative designs, materials, rnand scheduling, managing and construction techniques. While the single point of contact can berneasier, the checks and balances that exist between the architect and contractor are missing, whichrncan create conflict between the owner and Design-Build firms. It can be difficult to assessrnwhether the best price has been achieved. rnThis research investigates the challenges of implementing Design-Build delivering process onrnEthiopian Road Authority (ERA) projects. During conducting these research availablerndocuments relevant to the research were reviewed journals and articles, books, internet sourcesrnand archival document such as progress reports, completion reports, and contract documents. Indepthrnrnreview of literature, desk study and case study are conducted and then an interviewrnquestions for each contracting parties are designed. The interviewees were asked face to facernwith interviewer. Then the data were analyzed for cross-checking the validity and conformity ofrnthe information obtained through the overall research work and literature review. This isrnfollowed by thorough discussions in order to draw a conclusion and to forward recommendationsrnbased on the findings of the study. rnThe research concludes that ERA‘s implementation of DB projects delivery system requiresrnimprovements on criteria or requirements to select delivery method, preparation before tenderingrnand on administration during construction. ERA should focus heavily on the qualifications of therndesign-builder and its key team members rather than price or best-value procurement; andrnrewards design-build teams that have a demonstrated history of successfully collaborating onrndesign-build projects.
