The purpose of the study was to establish and analyze the relationshiprnbetween Ethiopia's foreign trade (exports and imports) and GrossrnDomestic Product (GDP). A broader review of published sources wasrnmade on all aspects of the problem to be investigated. Based on arnpriori theoretical knowledge and the nature of the scatter diagram,rnlinear regressions of GDP on exports and imports on GDP were formulated .rnRegression and correlation coefficients were computed and interpretedrnwith allowances given to non-economic variables.rn The results showedrnthat there is a strong association between GDP and exports, on the onernhand, and imports and GDP , on the other. The relationships were thenrnviewed with due considerations given to policy issues such as structuralrndiversification and economic cooperation and integration.
