In respect of today’s dynamic educational need, lack of up to date empirical evidence on education quality is the identified gap. So, the main objective of the study was to assess the status of quality of education in "secondary schools of Holeta" and "Menagesha" towns. The study employed descriptive research design to answer the questions and achieve the research objectives. The information was obtained from sample respondents through questionnaires. As the sampling technique the study used employ non-probability sampling - purposive sampling. The quantitative data were analyzed using frequency, percentage and tabulation. Based on the data analysis the following major findings were obtained. majority of the subject teachers did not prepare professional documents such as schemes of work, lesson plans and work records. This implied that teachers were not trained to prepare adequately for lessons. This led to poor student performance. The findings indicated that most of the schools did not have adequate physical facilities such as classrooms, assembly halls, toilets and enough stores for teaching equipment. Based on the summary of the findings above this study concludes that leadership style employed by the principals was good there was little involvement of parents/guardians and community members/ leaders in major decisions making and also in the running of the schools. In addition, it was also suggested that the major challenges which the stakeholders in education faced were lack of enough trained teachers, lack of resources, high number of students in classes, lack of enough class rooms in zone, poor economic background of the students and indiscipline in schools. So, the study finalizes with the following recommendations i.e. Ministry of Education and concerned stakeholder should ensure that schools should prepare teachers who hold professional quality and are well trained teachers. This is the caliber of teachers who can deliver quality instructions and bring about good student academic performance.rnKey words: quality of education, Holeta, Menagesha, Principal, Teachers
