The purpose of this study was to assess the role of school leadership in influencing students’rnachievement in primary schools of Kersa Malima woreda. A descriptive survey design wasrnemployed in this study. The size of sample taken was 8 school principals, 8 school vicernprincipals, 8 CRC supervisors, 7 woreda education experts, 8 PTA members, 8 KETBrnmembers and 320 students and it was taken from 8 primary schools of the woreda. These 8rnschools were selected through simple random sampling technique. The PTA, KETB, CRCrnsupervisors, school principals and vice principals were selected through purposive samplingrnwhile the teachers and students were selected through quota sampling. The woreda educationrnexperts were selected through simple random sampling. Questionnaire, semi-structuredrninterview and documents were used to collect data. 97 questionnaires were filled andrnanalysed using both descriptive and statistical techniques (percentages). In addition, openrnended questionnaires and semi-structured interview and documents were analysedrnqualitatively. On the bases of these findings, school leadership was less effective due to lackrnof professional qualification, experience and proper support from the woreda educationrnoffice. Finally, based on the findings and conclusions, recommendations were made onrncapacitating and empowering the school leaders to do their work effectively
