Leadership is able to lead establishing new capabilities within the heart of the organization andrnits culture. It has influence over students and teachers in all educational institutions to bringrnabout culture change so as to cope with the changes enforced by Education Bureau of AddisrnAbaba and stay in the market. In light of this, the present study aims at investigating thernleadership role in school culture change in some selected schools in Bole Sub City. This enablesrnto know the leaders skills and commitment to bring culture change to facilitate and achieve highrnperformance. To do so, this thesis has used Harrison and Dension models to identify thernleadership style currently practiced and evaluate leadersâ€™ skills and commitment in the selectedrnschools respectively. Descriptive survey research design was used. Samples of 100 students, 70rnteachers, 30 administrative staff members which are selected by stratified random samplingrnmethod were participated in the study. Furthermore, 20 purposefully selected participants, 10rnfrom students, 6 from teachers and 4 from administration staff were interviewed. The data werernanalyzed by STATA software using means, percentile, standard deviation and ANOVA. The studyrndemonstrated that the schools dominant leadership style was transactional leadership. Thernqualitative data showed that the leaders were not flexible and did not appreciate team work.rnTherefore, leaders were incapable to bring culture change given their inflexibility, a lessrnadaptive, less consistent leadership style. The researcher recommended, a transformational stylernof leadership with flexibility, adaptive style, strong team work and develop a common missionrnstatement
