The main purpose of this work was to study assessment of photo-Fenton process (Fern/H2O2/UV)rnfor the removal of pesticide from wastewater. Synthetic wastewater from 2,4DichlorophenoxyaceticrnwasrnpreparedrnandrncharacterizedrnforrnitsrnorganicrnmatterrncontentrnandrnalsornitrnrnPHrnandrnturbidityrnwhichrnhasrnarnsignificantrneffectrnonrntherndegradationrnprocess.rnBox-Benkhenrndesignrnrnresponse-surfacernrnmethodology was developed to optimize photo-Fenton degradation of 2,4Dichlorophenoxyaceticrnrnin which UV light radiation was used as a source of light. The threernvariables considered in Box-Benkhen design model included initial 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyaceticrn[2,4-D], hydrogen peroxide [H2O2] and Ferrous iron [Fern2+rn] concentrations. The removalrnefficiency was expressed in terms of total organic carbon (TOC) and chemical oxygen demandrn(COD) percentage removal. The optimum values of 94.7 mg/L 2,4-D, 22.78 mg/L Fern2+rn, 156.4 mg/LrnH2O2 were obtained by optimizing the variables using Box-Benkhen design that the data wasrnanalyzed after carrying out each experiment for 2 hours at room temperature. The photo-Fentonrnprocess led to 85% TOC removal and 96% COD removal thereby showing the effectiveness ofrnusing photo-Fenton process for the removal of pesticide from wastewater.
