It is one of the major challenges in the country’s (Ethiopia) agriculturalrndevelopment and food security. In order to solve the problem of land degradation, a lot ofrnefforts have been made since 1970s in conservation practices. However, thesernconservation techniques have not been sustainably implemented. Thus, identification ofrnchallenges in relation to land restoration practices is of paramount importance. This studyrnwas undertaken in Misirak Badawacho Woreda of Hadiya Zone, in SNNPR. In order tornachieve the objective of the study, both primary and secondary data were generated byrnemploying qualitative and quantitative approaches. Stratified sampling technique was usedrnto select MHH and FHH. To this effect 117 household heads were selected from twornkebeles by using systematic random sampling, as it is assumed that the households arernsimilar with respect to the characteristics that influence the research output. The processrnof analysis and interpretation was carried out using qualitative description andrnquantitative analysis. The quantitative data was analyzed using frequency, percentage andrnmean when appropriate. The findings of the study indicated that decrease in productivityrnof farm land, involvement in off-farm activities, increase in size of human population, lackrnof full cooperation of family members to engage in land restoration practices, lowrnassistance gained from neighbor-hoods, less access to extension services and inadequaternattention from Woreda Agriculture and Rural Development Office are the majorrnchallenges limiting the implementation of land restoration practices in effective way in the study area.
