Ethiopia 's capital Addis Ababa has been hosting important conventions concerning Ajhca sincern1960s onwards consequently. In spite of this long history of its existence conference tourismrnremains under developed. Hence, the major objective of the study is to find out the challengesrnand opportunities of conference tourism development in Addis Ababa. To achieve this objectivernquantitative and qualitative case study method, and random and purposive sampling techniquesrnornwere employedfor both questionnaire and interview data gathering instruments. Based on therndata collected the major challenges with regard to conference tourism development in AddisrnAbaba are; absence of appropriate structure and organization for tourism sector; insujficientrnconference facilities and service providers, lack of professionalism and weak human resourcerndevelopment in the sector and absence of pre and post conference activities.rnKey Words: COllferellce tourism, pre and post conference activities
