This research paper tries to see the living situation of womenrnin Kimbibiti and Debre-Birhan prisons. It mainly assessesrnthe suitability of prisons for women prisoners in terms of thernprisoners in terms of the privacy they get while they arernimprisoned, personal hygiene Issues, medical service,rnnutrition, vocational training, and delivery of rehabilitationrnprogrammes. It also assesses the causes of committing crimernfor selected women inmates. Lastly, it tries to exammernproblems encountered during their stay at prison.rnLike men, there are so many reasons for women commitrncrime and contribute to the tariff of most offence categories.rnWomen commit all offence categories. Some of the wellrnknown offences women commit are theft, infanticide,rnhomicide, robbery, perjury, and abortion. However fewerrnwomen than men are coming to the criminal justice system.rnWomen face multiples of problems while they are living inrnthe pnson community. The situation m the prisonrncommunity does not totally fit to women in most cases sincernthe system long time ago. They do not take women's needsrninto consideration when they were built. Due to this factrnmany of the prisons and the situations in it are malernoriented and designed for men.
