Background: Dilated Cardiomyopathy which is the commonest of the cardiomyopathies is anrnimportant cause of cardiac-related morbidity and mortality globally. Despite the significant healthrnimpact associated with this disease, reliable data regarding the assessment of risk factors andrntherapy of these patients is lacking.rnObjective: This study aimed to identify the possible risk factors associated with dilatedrncardiomyopathy and assess the optimization of GDMT in this patient population.rnMethods: Hospital based crossectional study was conducted at TASH. The study included 107rnpatients who had follow up at TASH from Sep 2019 – Aug 2020. A semi structured selfadministeredrnquestionnairernrnand data from EMR was collected and used for analysis. The resultsrnwere interpreted using descriptive statistics.rnResults: Of the total of 107 patients 12.1% patients reported family history of cardiac illness, 30.8rn% had a significant alcohol and/or chat intake, 16% had peripartal diagnosis, 6.5 % were HIVrninfected patients, 1.8 % had history of thyrotoxicosis and 6.5% had antracycline chemotherapyrntreatment.rnRegarding therapy; 89.7% of our patients were on beta blocker while 91.4 % of patients were onrnACEI/ARB/ARNI and 58.9 were taking MRA. The majority of patients were on suboptimal doses ofrnall groups of medication.rnConclusion: In the majority of our patients risk factors underlying the disease could be identifiedrnupon detailed inquiry. While most of our patients are on appropriate GDMT, the dose of thernmedications taken was far lower than that of the target dose as stated by the guidelines.
