In this study an investigation of the existing information facilities andrninformation flow patterns for health manpower requirements analysis in Sing idarnDistrict Council has been carried out. A survey conducted for the purpose ofrnunderstanding the existing information facilities in the chosen area has revealed thernweakness of the existing information facilities, and observation has led to pinpoint thernmeans of improving and strengthening the existing information support facilities forrnmanpower requirement analysis at the Local government level.rnThe use of questionnaires, interviews, observations and literature survey onrnhealth manpower have revealed the information needs of health manpower plannersrnand decision-makers at the local government in Singida District. Findings from thernusers groups are given. A computer-based information support system which isrnenvisaged to be more efficient has been proposed based on those findings. Fourrnprototype databases have been designed using Mico-CDS/ISIS which taken together arernexpected to provide all necessary information required by health manpower plannersrnin Singida District. These include specialised database for health institutions, healthrnstaff, and health projects. An integrated database for bibliographic records has alsornbeen designed.rnThe prototype information support system has been proposed to work on arnLocal Area Network (LAN) located within Sing ida District Council's healthrndepartments. Measures to be taken for implementation of the prototype informationrnsupport system and its further improvements are suggested.
