The Ethiopian state media have recently made development journalism a key concept in officialrnpolicy documents to accelerate the implementation of the nation's development plan. onlyrntelevise ion station, Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporate, has the broadest coverage of populationrnand geographical area ; it is also one of these media that has adopted development jowl lism.rnthe purpose of this study was to analyze EBC's prime lime Amharic news (0 see whether thernnews contents had the characteristics of development journalism and to see if there were anyrngaps on the news presentation. To do so, this study employed both quantitative and qualitativernmethods (mixed method). And quantitative and qualitative content analyses and interview werernused as a data collect ion too ls.rnBased on the availability of the data, news that was broadcasted withal six months of time fi"llmernwas gathered. Accord ulgly, a total of one hundred and twenty news stories· were se lected byrnUSUlg systematic random sampling method. Similarly based on their fi·equent involvement onrnreporting development news, five senior reporters and two ed itors were interv iewed.rnTI,e data were analyzed based on the categories (unit of ana lysis) that were derived fi·om thernprinciple of development journa lism news and deve lopment journa lism mode~ andrncharacteristics of television liews presentation. Both quantitative and qualitative content analysisrnmethods were used to analyze the data.rnThe finding of the research shows, EBC's bulletproof Amharic news program gives highrnemphasis to development issues. However, these stories are United to economic developmentsrnwhereas, other development issues have not been given enough attention and negative stories arernhardly covered.
