Introduction: The objectives of this study were to analyse, compare and contrast the demographic,rnclinical and pathological data of odontogenic tumours , cysts and maxillofacial bone tumors seen at rnTikur Anbesa Hospital, Pathology department and compare with other international data as an aidrnto clinicians in diagnosing odontogenic and maxillofacial bone lesions. rn Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, retrospective study of odontogenic tumours and cystsrnand bone lesions diagnosed from Sep 2013 - Oct 2018 at this centre. These were analyzed for age, rngender, site of tumor and histopathologic typing. The odontogenic tumours were classified using thern2005 World Health Organization classification system. rn Results: From a total of 132 patient cases reviewed , only 107 were having complete records suitablernfor the study. Of the remaining 107 cases, 59 (55.1%) of the study subjects were males while rnremaining 48(44.9%) were female. M:F ratio of 1:1.2. Mean age of patients was 27.8years . Therncommonest age group for both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions were in the first and secondrndecades. 60(56.1%) of cases were Benign, 16(15.0%) were Malignant and the rest 31(29%) were nonneoplastic.rnMostrn(94.4%)ofrnthernbiopsyrnspecimenrnwerernreceivedrnfromrnMaxillofacialrnsurgeryrnunitrnofrnrnYekatitrn12rnHospital.rn rn rn rn rn rn rnrn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rnrn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rnrn rn rnrn rn rn rn rn rnOutrnofrnthern31rnNon-neoplasticrncases,rn27(87%)rnofrntherncasesrnwerernOdontogenicrncysts.rnOfrnthese,rn17(63%)rnrnoccurredrninrnmalesrnandrn10(37%)rnin females.rnThernmeanrnagernofrnoccurrencernofrnOdontogenicrncystsrnwasrnrn31.56rnyears.ThernmostrnfrequentlyrnrecognizedrnOdontogenicrncystsrnwerernBenignrnOdontogenicrncystrnrn9(33.3%),rnfollowedrnby Dentigerousrncystrn8(29.6%),rnOdontogenicrnkeratocystrn5(18.5%)andrnRadicularrncystrnrn5(18.5%).rnThernmostrncommonlyrnaffectedrnlocationrnby OdontogenicrncystsrnwerernMaxillarn17(63%)rnfollowedrnrnbyrnMandiblern9(33.3%).rnrn rn rn rn rnrn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rnrn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rn rnrn rn rn rn rn rnrn rnrnFromrnthern60rnbenignrncases,rntherncommonestrnbenignrnOdontogenicrntumorrnwasrnAmeloblastomarn15(25%).rnrnThernmeanrnagernofrnoccurrencernbeingrn28.8yearsrnandrnM:Frnratiornofrn1.14:1.rnTherncommonestrnsiternofrnrnoccurrencernwasrnthernmandiblern14(93.3%).rnThernsecondrncommonestrnbenignrnlesionrnfoundrnwasrnOssifyingrnrnfibromarn12(20%).rnThernmeanrnagernofrnoccurrencernwasrn22.9yearsrn. Itrnoccurredrnin 7(58.3%)rnofrnmalesrnandrnrn5(41.7%)rnofrnfemalesrn&rnbothrnmandiblern6(50%)rnandrnmaxillarn6(50%)rnwerernequallyrninvolved.rn rn rn rnMalignantrnlesionsrnwerern16(15%)rnofrntherntotalrncases.rn12(75%)rnwerernmalesrnandrn4(25%)rnwerernfemales.rnThernrnmeanrnagernwasrn29.6%rn.7rncases(43.8%)occurredrnin thernmaxilla,rn6 (37.5%)rninrnthernmandiblernandrnthernrestrnrn3(18.8%)rnoccurredrnin Jaw(siternnotrnspecified).rnOfrntherntotalrn16rncases,rntherernwerern4 cases(25%)rnofrnrnOsteosarcomarnandrn4 casesrn(25%)rnofrnPrimaryrnintraosseousrnsquamousrncellrncarcinomarn.rnrnrnConclusion: Odontogenic tumors, cysts and maxillofacial bone lesions show a definite geographicrnvariation. In our study, ameloblastomas were the most frequent odontogenic tumor similar to other rnAfrican studies,but significant variation form studies done in Canada and Brazil. Benign fibroosseousrnlesionsrnwerernthernsecondrncommonestrnlesionrnwhichrnwasrnin contraryrntornmostrnliteratures.rnrnDentigerousrncystrnwasrntherncommonestrncystrnfollowedrnbyrnOdontogenicrnKeratocystrnandrnRadicularrncysts.rnArnrndefinitiverndiagnosisrncanrnbernmadernonrnthernbasisrnofrnclinicalrnradiological,rnandrnhistologicalrnfindings.rnrnKnowledgernofrnthernbiologicalrnandrnhistologicalrnbehaviorrnofrnthesernlesionsrnisrnrequiredrnforrntheirrnearlyrnrndetectionrnandrneffectiverntreatment.
