Pregnancy is a time when a woman experiences major psychological and biological changes.rnMany factors can affect the emotional state of the mother during pregnancy. This changes mightrnpredispose her for mental distress. Studies have shown grave consequences both on the motherrnand on the fetus in high and LMIC countries like Ethiopia .Screening might decrease thernoccurrence ,early treatment and prevention of complications of CMDrnThe aim of the study was to study the probable depressive symptoms and treatment acceptabilityrnof perinatal service among women who come for ANC visit in Zewditu Memorial Hospitalrn,Addis Ababa Ethiopia .It was a cross sectional study ,taking 187 women from the ANC clinicrnand administered PHQ 9 and other scales to asses violence, alcohol consumption and treatmentrnacceptability questions.rnThe study found 30% of high depressive score .High association with being unmarried, lack ofrnsupport, exposure to violence in pregnancy, having a ‘low risk’ pregnancy and reported lowerrnrelative wealth .Negative association with HIV status and high risk pregnancy .Low treatmentrnseeking behavior .Participants prefer to be screened at the ANC clinic rather than the psychiatricrnclinic .rnThe study concluded that having a separate intervention for their mental distress is unlikely tornsucceed so joint intervention with their obstetric care is recommended .Obstacles that womenrnhave from getting psychiatric service also should be studied for a better intervention outcome
