This is a discriptive cross sectional study torndetermine factors which can influence and posernchallenges for Home Based Care for AIDS Patients . Thernsetting was Entoto Awraja North of Addis AbabarnEthiopia .rnFour hundred eighty five persons from the communityrnmemmbers of Entoto Awraja ; 37 AIDS patients attendingrncounselling and follow up clinic ; and 12 family membersrnwho were informed about their patients disease , wererninterviewed by structured questionnaires, while 127rnhealth institution workers involved in the care of AIDSrnpatients in different health institutions were given selfrnadministered questionnairs â€¢rnThe communitys', patients, families and healthrninstitution workers ,Knowledge, attitude, beliefs andrnpractices on AIDS , hospital care and home based care ofrnpatients was assessed More than 60% of respondentsrnhad good knowledge about transmission routes and means ofrnpreventions , although 70% of them mentioned nonspesificrnsymptoms of the disease . 61% and 81% of the communityrnand health institution workers respectively did not thinkrnthe hospital would meet all the needs of AIDS patients ,rnand 57% of the community prefrred Home Care compared torn40% of the patients , 25% of the familly members and 43%rnof health institution workers. Majority of the thernpatients and famillies were afraid of social consequensesrnby beeing exposed due to vists by home care team. 60% ofrnthe community respondedrncare team if askedrnthey will .be volunteers for homernwhile only 35% of the healthrninstitution workers responded similarlyrnThe study reveals considerably good knowledgernvrnamong the respondents on AIDS ,with bias towards clinicalrncare and lees emphasis on th psychological support . Therncommunity displays less fear for AIDS and more positivernattitude towards home care than health intitutionrnworkers.rnPromotional and educational efforts arernrecommended , with emphasis on health workers for thernsuccess of Home Based Care.
