The Government of Ethiopia and its development partners recognize the critical importance ofrnintensifying multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration and coordination to be able torneffectively prevent, detect and respond to health threats at the animal, human and environmentalrninterface. The four core One-Health government sectorial signed the Memorandum of Understanding.rnThe human, animal and environment interface has made the routine disease prevention and controlrnprocess shows a promising start in Filtu and Deka-Suftu Woreda. This condition created a newrnconcept, one health, in which the health of each group is interconnected and dependent. This conceptrnis based on the collaborative efforts and communication of multiple disciplines working together tornattain optimal health of people, animals, and the environment. Therefore, the objective of this reviewrnis to show how an integrated work between concerned bodies mainly animal and public health isrnhelpful for better health in the pastoral areas of Ethiopia through one health approach; assess itsrncontribution in livelihoods promotion and explore its overall relevance to the study area.rnMany livestock diseases are not limited only to animals but directly or indirectly transmit fromrnanimals to humans and are known as Zoonotic diseases. The occurrence of zoonotic diseases involvesrninteraction of animal, human and the environment requiring coordination and collaboration of effortsrnbetween human and animal health as well as other relevant sectors to attain optimal health for people, rndomestic animals, wildlife, and the environment. This is highly important and value adding in termsrnof manpower, resource and financial savings. However, because of no or little awareness andrnknowledge on zoonotic diseases and their control and prevention strategies, different sectors makernseparate efforts. CCM & stakeholders have recognized the gap and importance of OH approach andrnestablished OH project to focus on the creation of better understanding on zoonotic diseases and theirrncontrol and prevention methods which could be achieved through trainings of environmental, animalrnand human health professionals, authorities, other relevant stakeholders and the community. CCMrnfocused on their specialities of animal & human health activities, others managed the environmentalrnpart. It is also important that CCM in collaboration with other stakeholders establish One Healthrnplatform and strategy through which implementation of OH concept could be realized. This is anrnimportant step as it brings multidisciplinary sectors together for coordinated and collaborative effortsrnthrough effective mobilization of resources, early disease outbreak detection, reporting, introducingrnsurveillance systems, joint planning, and implementation of effective and sustainable control andrnprevention of zoonotic diseases.rniv | P a g ernThe Problem of life conditions of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in Filtu and DekasufturnWoreda not solved by the involvement of a number of NGOs like CCM, but also needs a participatoryrnapproach where the community, public and animal health workers, and local authorities as well asrnother relevant sectors was actively involved. The One-Health Approach intervention without arncollaboration of the pastoral and agro-pastoral communities, the woreda, zonal, regional and federalrnlevel government bodies like universities, research institutes and donor countries should givernpriorities to be One-Health Approach sustainable. I recommend the following based on our researchrnobjectives and research questions that the gap what I observed to be filled by the current One-HealthrnApproach interventions concepts.
