Some Statistical Measures Of Regional Variation In Socioeconomic Performance The Etllopian Setting

This study focused on the variation in the regionalrndistribution of some socioeconomic services in Ethiopia. Thernpaper also attempts to compare different natures of regionalrnvariation which were obtained on the basis of socioeconomicrndata for the year 1979 with the natures of regionalrnvariation obtained on the data of the same sort for the yearrn1989 .rnSome uni-variate descriptive measures and arnmultivariate method called cluster analysis were used tornstudy the variation among regions. The six clusteringrnprocedures that are generated by a common algorithmrn[ Wishart (1969») were applied to investigate the naturesrnof regional disparities in their socioeconomic status forrnthe year 1979 and the year 1989. Different natures ofrnregional variation for changes in socioeconomicrncharacteristics of regions were also studied by applying sixrnclustering procedures on the ratios the characteristics ofrnregions in the year 1989 to that of the year 1979rnSome conclusions were drawn on the basis of regionalrncharacteristics considered. Recommendations were also madernto indicate some possibilities for future work in the area
