The main purpose of this. research was to find the categoriesrnof verbs that determine the various Dromo sentence patterns.rnAt the initial stage, a review of all available books andrnpublications on Oromo in general, and the .verb in particular wasrnmade. In cases where adequate information was lacking an interviewrnof the people concerned was~conducted. Besides, to get a good picturernof what sentence patterns look like, certain books on Englishrnsentence patterns were reviewed.rnFive categories of verbs have been determined. These categoriesrnof verbs fit into the following five basic Oromo sentenoe patternsrnwhich also have been studied in the course of the research:rn1. Npl v. 9utAman inDufe. Though the researcher has not dealt with· the transforms inrnthis study, it is anticipated that once they are determined properly,rnthe teaching of Oromo syntax may be facilitated immensely ••
