The purpose of this study was to assess the behaviour and a ttitudernof 'Expert' and 'In expert' teachers towards the teaching of English asrna foreign language in government-owned high schools in AddisrnAba ba .rnThe literature reView mainly fo cused on the various teacherrnbehaviors revea led in an EFL teaching situa tion, the attitudes a ndrnviews of various teachers towards the English teaching; and relatedrnissues in this a rea.rnQuestionnaires and observation were conducted with a sample ofrnteachers and students. Observations were conducted to classroom,;rnon forma l English teaching classes in various high schools.rnThe res ults indicate tha t most of the teachers who a re currently atrnwork in government-owned high schools in Addis Ababa basical lyrnexhibited a 'non -expert' and in -effective teaching behaviours andrnattitudes toward the practice of teaching English as a foreignrnla nguage. The 'Expert' teaching a ttitude found to be much lesser,rnand hence, its teaching outcome or impact-very insignificant..rnFina lly, Recommenda tions were accordingly proposed to reasona blyrnimprove and change the currently demonstra ted teaching behaviorsrnand a ttitudes of English teachers.
