The main purpose of the study is to identify thernkind of questions asked by teachers and students in thernEnglish language classrooms.rnThe selected schools for this study are Yekatit 12rnSenior Secondary School, Entoto Technical, Vocational andrnAcademic School, Ethiopia Tikedom Number One SecondaryrnSchool, Tikur Anbesa Senior Secondary School and MisrakrnComprehensive Senior Secondary School.rnThe results of the study show that teachers usernknowledge and comprehension level questions in thernrecorded lessons. Table 4 shows that 121 questions orrn78.43 per cent of the total questions are classifiedrnunder knowledge level. Twenty-nine questions or 18.95rnper cent of the total questions are comprehensionrnquestions.rnThe distribution of questions 1n the classroom isrnshown on table five. The result shows that 76 questionsrnor 49.67 per cent of the total questions are answered byrnvolunteers and 38 questions or 24 _84 per cent of therntotal questions are answered by the whole class.rnNineteen questions or 12.42 per cent of the questions arernalso answered by randomly asked students.rn11rn-~-~.•--.~~- ---" --- .rnLastly, table six shows that 57 questions are goodrnquestions. On the other hand, loosely-worded, repeated,rnmultiple, rhetorical, ambiguous, elliptical and limitedrnquestions share the remaining 96 questions.rnThe teachers ask 30.6 questions on an average perrnclass
