The purpose of this study was to assess the practices and challenges of practicumrnimplementation program in Abbi Addi College of Teachers’ Education. For this study,rnmixed research design was employed. Among the mixed research design concurrentrnembedded model was applied. The source of data for this study were the vice dean of therncollege , practicum coordinator, school mentors, college tutors, school directors, andrnstudent- teachers’ of third year in the academic year of 2012/2013. Questionnaires,rninterviews and classroom observations were used to generate the required data. The datarnobtained from the study participants were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Thernfindings of the study reveal that:- i) student-teacher have positive perception towards thernrole of practicum program in promoting their pedagogical skills as well as subject matterrnknowledge; ii) school mentors and college tutors failed in providing the necessaryrnsupport for practicum student- teachers; iii) even though college tutors and schoolrnmentors have relatively good understanding and positive perception about the purposernand activities of practicum program, their practical involvement on carrying out thernactivities’ of practicum program was found low; v) the extent of linkage between AbbirnAddi college and placement schools in collaboratively performing the major activities ofrnpracticum program was found to be weak, vi)despite the fact that practicum program inrnthe case of Abbi Addi College of Teachers Education has multiple challenges, the mostrnserious problems were lack of appropriate criteria for evaluation, intermittentrnsupervision of the college, lack of partnership among practicum stakeholders, and lack ofrnadequate school facilities. Therefore, to alleviate the aforesaid challenges and enhancernthe implementation of the program, Abbi Addi College of Teachers Education inrncollaboration with the placement schools needs to motivate and engage mentors andrntutors to provide the required support for prospective teachers as well as there should berna strong link among the practicum stakeholders pertaining to practicum program.
