This study tried to assess the contributions of NGOs in the promotion of girls' education inrnthe case of Selam Children Village (SCI1 specifically in assistance to needy program, AddisrnAbaba. Qualitative research method was applied to obtain pertinent information fromrnprimary and secondary data sources. The case study incorporates fourteen girl students whornare direct beneficiaries of the assistance to needy program and find out the interventionrnstrategies of the organization in terms of addressing the challenges of the targeted girlrnstudents. The study found out that low economic status and poor educational background ofrnparents, Lack of time to study at home due to heavy workload, are the major challenges ofrnthe girl students in the study area and lead them to failure and drop out. Scholarship,rnsanitary pads, hair oil, lotions, school uniform, text books and other school materials arernprovided to girls as intervention strategies of assistance to needy project. Absence of strongrncollaboration with the school and community and also a narrow approach of providing thernnecessary scholastic material absence of training and tutorial class were mentioned asrnshortcomings of the program . .Therefore the study has found that these interventions haverntheir own contributions in order to address the challenges of the girl students and theirrnschooling. Therefore based on the findings improving the social, economic and politicalrncapacities of families should be the major task in order to promote girls education.
