This study was conducted to investi~ate "the" Cdn"cepti6ri bf leacners " " "rnand Students Regarding Reading English: the Case of Grades 4 and 5rnstudents in some Selected Primary Schools in Arada Sub city, AddisrnAbaba. The schools were selected purposefully so as to includernsamples from various types of schools, and the study included onernchurch school, one private school, one public school and onerngovernment school. The subjects of the study were the samplernschool's. Grades 4 and 5 students, their English teachers, and the fourrnsample schools' directors. Regarding data gathering techniques,rnschedules were used to collect data from students, questionnaire torncollect data from teachers, and interview was used to collect data fromrndirectors. All the tools for data collection were prepared in Amharic tornavoid language barriers and to facilitate communication.rnThe objectives of the study were to assess the students' reading skillsrndevelopment in some selected primary schools in Arada Sub city. Tornachieve this objectives the researcher developed basic questionsrnconcern ing the factors that possibly affect students' reading skillsrndevelopment .rnThe researcher, therefore, assessed the possible causes of poorrnreading and the possible solutions to reading skills problems. Torninvestigate these issues, descriptive survey method was used. Thisrnmethod was chosen because the method helps to describe the statusrnof the existing phenomena at a point of time. ' Hence, the researcherrnfound out that students were rated as very good at reading andrnunderstanding English texts.
