The issue of student selection for different training college has been arnsubject of scientific enquiry for many Years. The enrolment increase withrnlimited resources, for example, makes it necessary for a college tornevaluate selection criteria designed to identify those who wiff becomernprofessionals in the field. The purpose of this study was to assess thernpredictive validity of the selection criteria used were entrancernexamination results and ESLCE/ EHEECE GPA. Besides this, High schoolrnaverage scores were also considered as additional selection criteria inrnthe study. The criterion measure used was the training performancernscores throughout the training program.rnThe subjects of the study were 281(male = 176 and Female =105)rntrainees who have been admitted to AHSC in 2004 and graduated inrn2006 attending three series of regular programs. For the purpose of thisrnstudy; the subjects were classified into four sub groups (cfinical nurse,rnpharmacy, laboratory and midwife) with respect to their fields of study.rnResults of the study indicated that the selection criteria have differentrnpredictive power in each subgroup. Entrance examination was found tornbe the best predictor of college GPA in each of the subgroups except thernmidwife field of study. But ESLCE/ EHEECE GPA was also better predictorrnof college GPA in the case of clinical nursing field of study only. In fa ct,rnthe addition of another variable (high school average score) to thosernpredictors improved the prediction accuracy in all fields of study. Finally,rnsuggestions were given so as to improve the prediction power of onern(ESLCE/ EHEECE) selection criteria.
