The pUlpose of this study was to asses and explains the major contributions of lINGOs inrneducation development in Ethiopia. Over and above, it was intended to propose the likelyrnmeans through which the problems faced by lINGOs will be solved to improve theirrncontribution and enhance their performance in the development endeavor in the futurerncourse of action. Therefore, survey study method was employed, the study was carried outrnin three lINGOs selected using availability sampling technique, re5pondent were selectedrnthrough availability sampling technique, data was gathered through interview,rnquestionnaire, and document analysis. Data was analyzed using percentage and weighedrnmean scores. The findings of the study revealed that lINGOs have been involved in socialrndevelopment activities, particularly in education development through the provision ofrnaccess to educational opportunities to the citizens, expansion & upgrading coverage torndistant rural areas and disadvantaged regions by new construction or maintenance,rnenhance equity to rural areas and disadvantaged regions and females, provision of adultrnand NFE program on basic education and training components for out-oI-school childrenrnand adults focused on literacy, numeracy and environment, improve quality and relevancernof education at all levels, all types and all institutions of education, addressing civic andrnethical education, HIVIAIDS and Education as well as they supported orphans andrnstudents from low income families. They faced challenges related to managerial, financialrnand technical problems. To alleviate the prevailing problems, it is recommended thatrnproject objectives, strategies and activities should be well refined, community participationrnshould be encouraged, government department consultation and advises should bernincorporated, formulation of rules and regulations how to perform jobs in local contextrnhave to take immediate attention, develop mechanisms to motivate employees and increaserntheir commitment in the work environment.
