The purpose of this study was to explore the status of teachers' engagement inrnaction research work among the high schools of Northern Shawa Zone ofrnOromia Regional State. The study was conducted in six high schools whichrnwere selected based on the number of the staff they constituted and theirrnproximity to transportation. The subject of the study were 112 teachers drownrnfrom the sample schools proportionally based on their work experience, tenrnschool principals were selected which includes the deputy directors. six CPDrncommittee members and five WEO experts were also included in the study.rnObservations of documents were also made to validate and triangulaterninformation from different sources. Descriptive statistics like mean, percentage,rnand average mean and grand mean score were used to analyze quantitativerndata. The results of teachers' questionnaire, principals and WEO experts'rninterview and CPD committee discussion were found to be consistent on thernissue at hand. Teachers' skill and competence on action research was found tornbe on promising condition though their practical involvement looks very low. Arnnumber of impeding factors including absence of action research trend and lowrnemphasis by school management were identified. Efforts jind a solution to curbrnthese impediments was found to be very low. Finally, it was recommendedrnamong other things that the school principals and CPD committee with WEOrnexperts should work together to inculcate strong research culture in the school.
