The purpose of this study was to examine the need to integrate tourismrn. e ducation and training into technical and vocational education andrntraining program to ensure the supply of adequate middle level manpowerrnto the tourism industry. The theoretical framework indicates thatrnsuccessful manpower planning approach in tourisms involves that thernevaluation of the present manpowe r, the projection of future manpowerrnneeds, the evaluation of the human resource available and, fo rmulatingrnthe education and training program which required providing the requisit ernqualified manpower. To achieve this objective, the descriptive researchrnmethod was employ e d. Primary data from 71 respondents (13 higherrnofficials of MCT and 58 p e rsonnel and marketing departments heads ofrnhotels and tour operators), and secondary data from legal docum ents ofrnboth entities, were coll ected. Questionnaire, document analysis andrninterview were used as instruments of data collection. The finding of thernstudy revealed that the existing tourism training institutes are unable tornsupply adequate numbe r of trained manpowe r to the extent of th e touris mrnindustry needs. Besides, the existing tourism business enterprises, name lyrntourist hotels and tour operators are not s trong enough in their number andrnquality of manpower to d e live r am internationally competitive service. Therntheoretical framewo rk indicates that successful manpower planningrnapproach in touris m s involves which evaluation of the present manpower,rnthe projection of future manpowe r needs, the evaluation of the humanrnresource available and, formulating the education and training programrnrequired to provide the re quisite qualified manpower. In the light of thesernfindings, recomm e ndations suggested were, first, to achieve the manpowerrntraining development programs needs assessment has to b e carried out,rnsecondly a systematic formulation of the training programs are to berndesigned for the required pre-employ ment including on-the-Job-trainingrnneeded to upgrade the present emplo yees working in tourism. At lastrnrecommendations given on the major findings of the s tudy, for therndevelopment of tourism training institute expansion program are that MCTrnand MOE may maintain a system measure to integrate tourism educationrnand training into TVET program to meet the tourism industry humanrnresource requirements.
