The pUipose of this study was to investigate the general conditions encountered byrnstudents/trainees in their transition from school to work in selected industrial occupational fieldsrnof studies. The research technique used in this study was basically a descriptive survey method.rnTo execute the study three TVETs colleges out of seven were selected on the basis of purposivernsampling techniques found in Addis Ababa. The three deans, six vice deans, twelve sectionrnheads, three vocational guidance and counselors, 121 trainers and 306 of the trainees werernincluded in the sample by using simple random sampling techniques. Using a mixed method ofrndata gathering, questionnaires to collect quantitative data and qualitative data from thernparticipants in the form of open- ended interview questions and findings were reviewed by usingrnthe chi-square test methods. The result of the study depicted that TVET program lacksrnadequately trained instructors, inadequate workshops and facilities. 1n addition, TVET collegesrnwere unable to establish a network of co-operative relationships with stake holders, lack ofrnconfidence on trainees in getting a job lie at the heart of the issues. Similarly, TVET collegesrnwere unable to conduct research-based preparation of TVET curriculum and hire qualifiedrnvocational guidance counselors. Thus, in general TVET program suffers from lack of capacityrnbuilding of administrative staffs and financial cons/rai."t (budget) as well as provision of rawrnmaterials difficulties. On the other hand, majority of students have not hesitated to indicate thernrelevant knowledge and skills they have acquired from their respective trainings. Finally, thernfinding of the study also suggest a clear benefit to the sector of additional guide lines andrnstrategies are jointly laid down by Federal Educational Organizations, in alliance withrnRegional, Zonal, Wareda level, and all other stake holders in the educational arena. Especiallyrnin establishing strong and consistent liaison between the trainees and the world of work,rnfinancial factors have gained a significant importance.
