n t h i s report, the Wmgerodt-Kindler reaction has
been reviewed, and a. variant of the reaction has "been
developed.
In t h i s , good yields of thioamides have been obtained
"by reaction of aldehydes or ketones with s a l t s of v o l a t i le
amines and anhydrous sodium acetate in dimethylformamide
at moderate temperatures, thus avoiding the conventional
use of pressure vessels and high temperatures.
The thioamides with alkyl halides give S-alkylquaternary
s a l t s , which have been reacted with various
nucleophilic reagents: hydrazine hydrate, sodium borohydride
and diazomethane: giving interesting products.
