The main purpose of this study was to examine the cun'ent practice and to investigate thernfuture expectation, tasks and respon ibilities of the vocational guidance and counseling unit byrntaking Woliso Technical and Vocational Education and Training College as a particular case.rnIn order to conduct the study qualitative research approach was used. This included the use ofrnint '-viewees discus ions observations and non-reactive methods of document reviewing asrndata collection strategies. Samples included were twenty two representing the vocationalrnguidance and counseling officer, Dean, VlDean, Student Dean, department heads, trainers,rnrepresentatives of employing organization and trainees in the college. The collected datarnanalyzed erbally by constructing a descriptive paragraph stressing on inductive method, andrnprovided that, emphasis was given to the purpose of the study, the number of individualsrninvolved, the research settings and the time spent during the analysis.rnWhen the actual performance of the vocational guidance and counseling unit of Woliso TVETrnCollege is seen in relation to the expected tasks, responsibilities and roles, it is lagging behind.rnThe findings of the investigation indicate that the programme of the unit is not as expected,rnexcept attempts made for the routine task of the unit that is emphasis given to apprenticeshiprnprogram and record keeping. From the findings, the very focus of the unit that is to createrncomplementary cooperation between training and employment had missed or got less emphasisrnor it was not as it was expected to be. To address cooperation between the unit and thernemploying organization, there has to be a planned and programmed commitment of the unit torntakl" the initiative to motivate the manufacturing and service rendering organizations.rnConsolidated through exhibitions, workshops and panel discussions those illustrate the trainingrnand trainees profile.rnIn addition there has to be regular communication net work between the unit and the focusrngroup both with in and outside the school to share information with regard training need andrnthe labour market assessment. Since the regional government is the leading and responsiblernbody of the sector, it is advisable to formulate compensatory directives that encouragernemploying organizations to take part in the situation and to allocate appropriate budgetrnto effect the tasks and responsibilities of the unit.
