Clarendon Scholarship 2027/28: Fully Funded Oxford

Clarendon Scholarship 2027/28 in the UK: Fully Funded Master's and DPhil Study at the University of Oxford

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

Applications are now open for the Clarendon Scholarship 2027/28, one of the University of Oxford's most prestigious fully funded graduate scholarships. The Clarendon Fund awards over 200 new fully funded scholarships each year to outstanding graduate scholars from around the world, for study starting in the 2027/28 academic year.

What makes Clarendon different is its simplicity: there is no separate scholarship application form. Every candidate who applies for an eligible Master's or DPhil course at Oxford by that course's December or January deadline is automatically considered for Clarendon funding.

Scholarship benefits and funding

Clarendon scholarships cover course fees in full, for both Home and Overseas fee-status students, for the scholar's period of fee liability.

Full-time scholars also receive an annual grant for living expenses of at least the UKRI minimum doctoral stipend rate. The University of Oxford states that, in 2025-26, full-time scholars receive at least £20,780 a year, an amount normally sufficient to cover the living costs of a single student living in Oxford. Applicants should check their offer letter for the exact living grant that applies to their course and year of entry, as the rate is set by reference to the UKRI minimum.

Part-time scholars receive a study support grant to help with non-fee costs. The value varies by course, and may be a sixth, a third, or half of the UKRI minimum doctoral stipend rate. The exact amount is set out in the scholar's offer letter.

Scholarships are normally offered for the period of fee liability. Continuation charges that may apply after that period are not covered by the Clarendon Fund, unless a scholar is notified otherwise in their offer letter.

Who can apply? Eligibility requirements

Clarendon is open to:

- Applicants for a new full-time or part-time Master's or DPhil course at the University of Oxford

- Students of any nationality, with no restriction on nationality or country of ordinary residence

- Applicants in any subject area, with no restriction on field of study

Selection is based on outstanding academic merit and potential, and the scholarships are highly competitive.

Applicants who hold a deferred graduate offer are not eligible. Current Oxford students who will continue the same degree in the next academic year are also not eligible. Students currently studying for a Master's at Oxford who will re-apply for a DPhil, or apply for a second Master's course, may be eligible.

Available courses and fields of study

All full-time and part-time DPhil and Master's courses are eligible, as long as the applicant applies by the December or January deadline relevant to that course. Applicants must check the deadline for their chosen course in the University of Oxford's graduate course directory, because deadlines differ by course.

How to apply: step-by-step

1. Choose your Master's or DPhil course at the University of Oxford and check its December or January graduate application deadline on the official course page.

2. Read the official Clarendon information for applicants carefully, including the value, duration, and eligibility rules.

3. Prepare your Oxford graduate application, including your academic record, references, and any course-specific documents required by your department.

4. Submit your graduate application by your course's December or January deadline. That single application is also your Clarendon consideration — you do not need to submit any additional documents or a separate scholarship form for Clarendon.

5. Wait for departmental and college decisions. Most Oxford scholarships are awarded between late February and June, and the approximate decision date for a scholarship is normally given in its entry in the University's A-Z of Scholarships.

Application deadlines

There is no single Clarendon deadline. The deadline that matters is your course's December or January graduate application deadline for 2027/28 entry. If you apply after that deadline, you will not be considered for Clarendon for that course, even if a later general application deadline exists. Check your exact course deadline before you start, and treat the earliest December dates as the real cut-off for December-deadline courses.
