Villanova Presidential Scholarship 2027: Full Tuition

Villanova University Presidential Scholarship 2027 in the USA: Full Tuition, Room and Board for First-Year International Students

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

Villanova University's Presidential Scholarship is one of the most generous merit awards in the United States — and for 2027 entry, the route in is simpler than many applicants expect. There is no nomination to chase and no separate scholarship form to submit at the first stage. Every first-year applicant who applies to Villanova by 15 January 2027 is automatically considered for the Presidential Scholars Program (PSP), and 25 students join the programme each year.

Villanova is a private Augustinian Catholic university in Villanova, Pennsylvania. Its Presidential Scholarship is a renewable, merit-based award for first-year undergraduate students, offered for up to eight semesters or until the completion of one undergraduate degree, whichever comes first.

What the Villanova Presidential Scholarship offers

According to Villanova's 2027-2028 undergraduate catalog description of the programme, the Presidential Scholarship covers:

  • Undergraduate Villanova University tuition for the fall and spring semesters
  • On-campus housing
  • A meal plan that includes up to 21 meals per week
  • The undergraduate student services fee
  • The Textbook Access Program book fee

That makes it, in practical terms, a full-tuition, room-and-board award for eight semesters. Villanova's own Presidential Scholars FAQ adds two important clarifications: the scholarship is a merit award that covers undergraduate tuition regardless of financial need, so no financial aid forms are required for Presidential Scholarship consideration itself — but all students receiving funds are expected to contribute personally toward educational and personal expenses while at Villanova. Travel and personal costs are therefore not something to assume are covered.

The programme is about far more than money. Presidential Scholars receive academic advising from the University Honors Program and are expected to participate in the Honors Program to an extent appropriate to their course of study. They also meet regularly with Villanova's Center for Research and Fellowships and its Center for Access, Success and Achievement, and take part in cultural, intellectual and service activities through the academic year. Scholars may also apply for Presidential Scholars Program Professional Development Award funds to help with enrichment experiences such as study abroad, internships and research. Within the programme, Caritas Presidential Scholarships recognise students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and a sustained commitment to the well-being of others and the common good.

Who can apply

  • You must be a first-time, first-year applicant applying for a bachelor's degree at Villanova University. Only students applying for a bachelor's degree are considered.
  • Transfer students are not eligible for Presidential Scholarship consideration.
  • The scholarship is open to all applicants who apply by 15 January and meet the scholarship criteria, including first-year international students. Villanova states this explicitly in its Presidential Scholars FAQ.
  • There is one important caution for international applicants: admission to Villanova for first-year international students is need-aware, so your family's ability to pay may be a factor in the admission decision as well as in eligibility to apply for the Presidential Scholarship. Apply with that in mind, and complete the financial aid process if you want to be considered for other assistance — admitted Presidential Scholars are encouraged to do so in case they qualify for additional aid.
  • There is no minimum GPA or SAT score requirement. Villanova looks for students with outstanding academic records, leadership roles, and a demonstrated commitment to community service. Typically, the students selected are in the top 1–2 percent of the national pool of first-year applicants.
  • Villanova will remain test-optional through the 2026–27 admission campaign (Class of 2031), and SAT or ACT scores are not required for Presidential Scholarship consideration for the current cycle.

How to apply — no nomination, no separate first-stage form

This is the change that catches many older guides out. Nomination is no longer required for consideration for the Presidential Scholarship. Instead:

  1. Apply for first-year undergraduate admission to Villanova University by 15 January 2027 (see the deadlines below). All applicants who apply by that date are automatically considered.
  2. Villanova's Office of Undergraduate Admission identifies outstanding candidates for the Presidential Scholars Program. In January, a select number of candidates are invited to submit a supplemental application for the PSP.
  3. Application invitations are sent along with an official offer of admission (for Early Action, Regular Decision and Early Decision II; for Early Decision I, the PSP candidacy notification follows an offer of admission). The information is posted in the Applicant Portal, so check your portal and your email carefully.
  4. Invited candidates who wish to apply must submit the supplemental Presidential Scholarship application by the deadline given in their notification.
  5. After review, approximately 60 finalists are invited to a required multi-day, on-campus Interview Program, where they are interviewed by faculty and administrative staff and take part in other evaluative experiences. The 25 Presidential Scholars are selected from that group and notified shortly afterwards.

Finalists who are admitted to Villanova are offered the highest of Villanova's partial scholarships even if they are not ultimately selected as Presidential Scholars, and they can apply, if eligible, for other scholarships and awards.

Important deadlines — read this carefully

  • Early Action and Early Decision I: 1 November 2026 — these deadlines have now passed.
  • Early Decision II and Regular Decision: 15 January 2027 — this is the deadline still open now, and it is the deadline that matters for Presidential Scholarship consideration for applicants who have not yet applied.
  • Presidential Scholarship consideration: apply by 15 January 2027. There is no separate first-stage scholarship deadline to meet before that date.
  • Supplemental application: only for invited candidates, by the deadline stated in the invitation, which arrives with (or, for Early Decision I, after) an offer of admission.
  • Finalist Interview Program: a required multi-day, on-campus programme for approximately 60 finalists, with final selection afterwards.

Do not wait until January to start. The Common Application, school reports, recommendations and any test scores you choose to submit all take time, and an incomplete application will not be considered. Aim to submit well before 15 January 2027.

Why this scholarship stands out

Many of America's best-known full scholarships require a school nomination, a separate essay set at the outset, or an early-November deadline that has already gone. Villanova's Presidential Scholarship removes the nomination barrier entirely: apply for admission by 15 January, and you are in the pool. The award itself is unusually complete — tuition, on-campus housing, a 21-meal plan, fees and textbooks for up to eight semesters — for just 25 students a year, with an honours and leadership programme wrapped around it. For an outstanding first-year student, international or domestic, who wants a close-knit, service-minded university community in Pennsylvania, it is one of the strongest opportunities still open for 2027 entry.
