University of Sheffield International Undergraduate Scholarship 2027 in the UK: £2,500 a Year for International Students — No Separate Application

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

If you are planning to start an undergraduate degree in the UK in September 2027, the University of Sheffield has one of the simplest scholarships you will find: a tuition-fee discount of £2,500 for each year of your degree, worth up to £10,000 over a four-year programme — and there is no separate scholarship form to fill in at all.

The University of Sheffield is a leading UK research university in the city of Sheffield, England. Its International Undergraduate Scholarship 2027 is aimed at overseas, self-funded students starting a full-time undergraduate degree in September 2027. The beauty of this award is its simplicity: meet the eligibility conditions, choose Sheffield as your firm or insurance choice by the deadline, and the discount is applied automatically.

What the scholarship offers

- £2,500 tuition-fee discount for each year of your undergraduate degree.

- A maximum total value of £10,000 for four-year programmes (and £7,500 for a standard three-year degree).

- The award is a tuition-fee reduction only — it is not paid in cash and does not cover living costs, accommodation or travel.

- The scholarship continues into each subsequent year of study, provided you achieve an average of 60% or above and at least 120 credits in the previous academic year.

- The award is not applicable during a compulsory or optional year in industry, work placement or year abroad.

- The scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship or discount offered by the University, unless explicitly stated, and cannot be combined with full or partial funding from an external sponsor (a repayable loan is the exception, as explained on the official page). Where more than one discount could apply, the most valuable award takes precedence.

Who can apply

- You must be starting an undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield in September 2027.

- You must be classified as overseas for tuition-fee purposes, self-funded, and not a sponsored student.

- You must be studying full-time. Students studying online or by distance learning are not eligible.

- All undergraduate degree courses are included, except Medicine (A100/A101) and Dentistry (A200).

- You must enter your degree programme in year 1. Students entering in year 2 or year 3 may still be eligible, provided they are not receiving a scholarship or award as part of a collaborative programme with their home institution.

- Students on a non-USIC Foundation year at the University are not eligible.

- MArch programmes and PGCE Teacher Training are treated as postgraduate taught programmes for scholarship purposes and are not eligible for this undergraduate award.

- The scholarship cannot be deferred to a future year of entry — if you defer, you forfeit the award.

How to apply — no separate scholarship form

This is the part many applicants miss, because they go looking for a scholarship application that does not exist. There is no additional application form for this scholarship, in the first year or in any subsequent year. Instead:

1. Apply for an undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield starting in September 2027, through UCAS in the usual way.

2. Receive your offer from the University of Sheffield.

3. Choose the University of Sheffield as your firm or insurance choice before 4pm (UK time) on Wednesday 2 June 2027.

4. That is it — if you meet the eligibility conditions above, the £2,500-per-year tuition-fee discount is awarded automatically.

It is your responsibility to make sure you receive any funding you are eligible for, and funding cannot be backdated to previous years, so do not leave the firm or insurance choice to the last minute.

Important deadline

- Wednesday 2 June 2027, before 4pm (UK time): choose the University of Sheffield as your firm or insurance choice. This is the single date that secures the scholarship — miss it, and the automatic award does not apply.

Why this scholarship stands out

Most international scholarships demand a separate essay, a nomination from your school, or an early deadline months before you have even chosen your university. Sheffield does the opposite: the award follows your UCAS choice. If Sheffield is already on your shortlist, this scholarship rewards a decision you were going to make anyway, with £2,500 off your tuition fees every year you meet the progression standard. It is a partial award, not a full scholarship — you will still need funding for the rest of your tuition fees and for living costs — but for eligible international students it is genuinely free money for simply choosing Sheffield on time.
