Surrey International Excellence Award 2027: £5,000

University of Surrey International Excellence Award 2027 in the UK: £5,000 for International Undergraduates

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

The University of Surrey is offering its International Excellence Award to outstanding international students starting a bachelor's degree in September 2027. The award is worth £5,000 as a tuition-fee waiver for the first year of study, and it is open to self-funded international fee-paying students regardless of nationality or domicile.

This is a partial funding award: it reduces first-year tuition fees only. It is not paid as cash, it does not cover living costs, accommodation or travel, and it cannot be combined with any other University of Surrey scholarship, so successful applicants still need to fund the rest of their degree.

Key Facts

- Host institution: University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom

- Scholarship deadline: 24 August 2027 for September 2027 entry

- Application route: Apply for a degree via UCAS, make Surrey your firm choice, receive an offer, then complete the scholarship application form

Who Can Apply?

You can apply for this award if you:

- Are an overseas fee-paying student

- Hold an offer to study a full-time bachelor's degree programme at FHEQ Level 4 (first-year entry) at the University of Surrey

- Have chosen Surrey as your firm choice on your UCAS application (students applying via Clearing can also apply)

- Are self-funded, meaning you are paying for your studies independently rather than being sponsored or in receipt of another scholarship

- Apply for the scholarship before your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is issued — the award cannot be applied after a CAS has been allocated

The award is decided by a scholarship awards panel, which assesses previous academic performance, predicted grades and the personal statement. Applications are reviewed monthly and awards are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so it pays to apply early rather than waiting until the August deadline.

Please note: part-time and distance-learning courses are excluded, the award is not open to students from the Surrey International Study Centre (SISC), and it is not deferrable to the following year — if you defer, you will need to reapply, subject to availability. Clearing applicants should submit as soon as they have an offer and have selected Surrey as their firm choice; the minimum grades requirement to apply via Clearing is ABB (or equivalent).

How to Apply

1. Apply for a full-time bachelor's degree at the University of Surrey through UCAS by 30 June 2027, and select Surrey as your firm choice.

2. Receive your offer from the University.

3. Complete the International Excellence Award scholarship application form using your valid student ID/UCAS ID and offer — applications without these will not be assessed.

4. Submit the scholarship application well before your CAS is issued, and no later than 24 August 2027 for September 2027 entry.

Why the University of Surrey?

Surrey is a well-regarded UK university in Guildford, within easy reach of London, and this award is refreshingly broad: it is not restricted to students from a short list of countries, and it rewards academic excellence across bachelor's programmes. The catch is timing — because awards are allocated first-come, first-served and must be settled before your CAS is issued, the students who benefit most are the ones who apply for admission early, secure their offer, and submit the scholarship form straight away.

If Surrey is already your firm choice for September 2027, or you are about to apply, do not leave this one until August: apply early, before your CAS is issued.
