Macalester Turck Scholarship 2027: Up To $40,000/year

Macalester College Charles J. Turck Presidential Honor Scholarship 2027 in the USA: Up to $40,000 a Year for International Students — No Separate Application

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

If you are an international student applying to a college in the United States for Fall 2027, Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is worth a serious look — not least because its main merit scholarship for international students requires no separate application at all.

The Charles J. Turck Presidential Honor Scholarship is awarded to a limited number of international students who demonstrate special potential to excel academically. It ranges up to $40,000 per year. Every international applicant is automatically considered — you do not need to fill in a separate scholarship form.

Key deadlines for the remaining rounds: Early Decision II — 1 January 2027; Regular Decision — 15 January 2027. Financial aid forms for those rounds are due 8 January and 22 January 2027 respectively. Early Decision I and Early Action closed on 1 November 2026.

What the Turck Scholarship offers

According to Macalester College's official international financial aid page, the Turck Scholarship is a merit award for international students:

  • Value: Up to $40,000 per year
  • Who it is for: A limited number of international students who demonstrate special potential to excel academically
  • Application: None — every international applicant is automatically considered
  • Level: First-year undergraduate study at Macalester College, starting Fall 2027

This is a partial funding award, not a full ride. The $40,000 figure is the top of the range, not a guaranteed amount, and it is awarded to only a limited number of students. If you need more help than the merit award alone, Macalester's need-based financial aid — explained below — is a separate route, and it is assessed on your family's financial situation.

Need-based financial aid for international students

Most of the financial aid Macalester awards to international students is based on financial need, and the college warns that competition for these funds is extremely keen. Macalester states that it meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for admitted students.

International students who need financial assistance must complete both of the following by the financial aid deadline for their application round:

  1. CSS Profile OR the International Student Application for Financial Assistance (ISAFA) for 2027–2028
  2. Macalester Financial Declaration Form, available on the Applicant Checklist in the student's portal

Macalester is clear about the consequence of missing this step: international students applying for financial assistance will not be considered for admission unless both required forms are completed and submitted.

Two practical points matter here. First, Macalester does not provide CSS Profile fee waivers for international applicants — but if the CSS Profile fee is a financial burden, you may submit the 2027–2028 ISAFA instead. Second, you cannot apply for financial aid after you have started your studies: Macalester says it is unable to consider applications for financial aid from international students after they have begun their studies, so your financial aid application must be complete at the admissions stage.

International students who are not applying for financial aid must instead complete and submit a Financial Obligations Agreement confirming their understanding of the financial commitment. Without that form, they too will not be considered for admission.

International students who qualify for financial aid are also offered part-time campus work as part of their aid package — typically around 9 hours per week, earning about $3,600 (after taxes) over the first year. That money is meant for out-of-pocket expenses beyond billed costs, and you must actually work to earn it; it cannot be replaced with additional scholarship money if you choose not to work.

Who is eligible?

The Turck Scholarship is for international first-year applicants to Macalester College. Macalester's official wording keeps the merit criterion broad — students who demonstrate special potential to excel academically — and it does not publish a single GPA or test-score cut-off for this award on its international aid page, so do not rely on any third-party minimum that is not on the official page.

Application to Macalester is completed through the Common App, according to the college's international first-year applicants page.

Key dates for Fall 2027 entry

  • Early Decision I and Early Action: Application deadline 1 November 2026 — now closed; financial aid priority date 9 November 2026
  • Early Decision II (binding): Application deadline 1 January 2027; financial aid priority date 8 January 2027; decision notification 31 January 2027; applicant reply date 15 February 2027
  • Regular Decision: Application deadline 15 January 2027; financial aid priority date 22 January 2027; decision notification 14 March 2027; applicant reply date 1 May 2027

Early Decision is binding: if you are admitted under Early Decision, you commit to enrolling and withdraw other applications. Regular Decision carries no such commitment, so choose the round that fits your situation — and remember that the financial aid forms have their own, later dates in each round.

How to apply

  1. Apply to Macalester College through the Common App by 1 January 2027 (Early Decision II) or 15 January 2027 (Regular Decision). This automatically puts you in consideration for the Turck Scholarship — there is no separate merit form.
  2. If you need financial aid, complete both financial aid forms — CSS Profile or ISAFA, plus the Macalester Financial Declaration Form — by 8 January 2027 (Early Decision II) or 22 January 2027 (Regular Decision).
  3. If you are not applying for aid, submit the Financial Obligations Agreement in your applicant portal.
  4. Check your applicant portal checklist to confirm every required form shows as received. Missing financial aid forms can mean you are not considered for admission at all.
  5. Check the official pages before you rely on any summary, including this one.

Bottom line: The Charles J. Turck Presidential Honor Scholarship is a genuinely valuable merit award — up to $40,000 a year, with no extra form — but it is partial, competitive, and limited in number. For Fall 2027, the rounds still open are Early Decision II (1 January 2027) and Regular Decision (15 January 2027), with financial aid forms due a week later in each round. Get the admission application and, if you need aid, both financial aid forms in on time — missing the aid forms is not a small slip at Macalester, it can remove you from admission consideration entirely.
