Background: Fasting of children before anesthesia is mandatory with the aim of to reduce therncomplications of due to regurgitation, vomiting, aspiration during anesthesia and surgery.rnProlonged fasting times have several negative implications in children due to high fluid turnover rnquickly leads to dehydration, perioperative hypotension, metabolic disturbances andrnhypoglycemia which leads to poor anesthetic outcomes. rnObjective: The aim of this study was to assess adherence to preoperative fasting guidelines andrnassociated factors among pediatrics patients undergoing elective surgery in Addis Ababa selectedrngovernment Hospitals, Ethiopia, 2020. rnMethod: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Addis Ababa selected government hospitals,rnEthiopia in 2020. A total sample of 279 pediatric patients with age up 17 years scheduled forrnelective surgery included in the data collection. The data analysis was done with SPSS V.21 andrnthe value of the variables and its associated factors was checked its association with logisticrnregression. Significance was determined at P -value
