Back ground: Job satisfaction is defined by how employees feel about their jobs and differentrnaspects of their jobs. It is a crucial variable used to determine the quality of health-care systems.rnThe work environment for Anesthetists has some unique and stressful ergonomic factors Thus tornachieve a higher level of job satisfaction among Anesthetists, it is necessary to identify andrnimprove some essential work climate characteristics.rnObjective: To determine the level of job satisfaction of anesthetists working in governmentrnhospitals of Addis Ababa and factors affecting their level of satisfaction.rnMethodology: Institutional based cross-sectional study design was conducted on 101rnanesthetists working in Addis Ababa governmental hospitals from April 1 to May 1, 2015.rnSimple random sampling method was used to obtain the study participants. Data were collectedrnusing a structured questionnaire, and analyzed using SPSS, version 20. Descriptive andrninferential statistical analyses were employed. Data were summarized using graphicrnpresentations for the interpretation of findings. Associations for statistical significance werernassessed using the ‘chi square’ test of association. P-values less than 0.05 were considered asrnstatistically significant.rnResults: Out of 101 anesthetists who responded for the self administered questionnaire.57% arernmale and 43% are female. The majority of respondents are below the age of 30 years (58.4%) &rnmore than half (59.4%) of the respondents were single. 53% of the respondents were satisfiedrnand the highest dissatisfaction rate was in the age group of below thirty. There was nornassociation between job satisfaction and socio demographic variables. However, satisfaction inrnhelping others, responsibilities, and freedom to choose method of working were significantlyrnassociated with job satisfaction.rnConclusion and recommendations: as the finding of this study 53% anesthetists werernsatisfied and the major reasons for dissatisfaction were lack of public awareness aboutrnthe role of anesthetists and low salary.Therefore, improving satisaction level of anesthetistrnby solving major reasons of dissatisfaction are strongly recommended
