The reaction of warm EtOH solutions of ninhydrin andrnthiosemicarbazide with NiCl2.6H2O (in EtOH) and Zn(AcO)2·2H2Ornyielded a tetrahedral and square planar complexes of Zn(II) and Ni(II)rnrespectively in a 1:1:1 mole ratio using the template method ofrnsynthesis.rnThe Schiff base, thus formed acted as a monobasic tridentate ligand viarnONS binding sites.rnThe compounds were characterized by conductometric, rnmagnetochemical measurements, AAS, IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectra.rnBesides, voltammetric study of Ni (II) complex was carried out in DMSOrnsolution in the presence of supporting electrolyte to characterize itsrnredox nature. The biological activities of the complexes were alsorninvestigated.rnKeywords: template synthesis, ninhydrin, thiosemicarbazide, rnantimicrobial activity, and voltammetric studies.
