Heteronemin, a pentacyclic sesterterpene has beenrncharacterized from the chloroform extract of an unidentifiedrnsponge sample collected from Massawa, Red Sea. The structurernwas established by 1H nmr, 13C nmr, and mass spectralrninterpretation.rnAnother CZ9 compound characterized as S-sitosterol,rnhas been isolated from the chloroform extract of anotherrnunidentified sponge sample, collected from the same localityrnas the first one. The structure of the sterol was characterizedrnby spectral interpretation, and comparing its physical constant~rnwith authentic sample.
