A new multidentate tripodal ligand 2, 4, 6-tris (N-Salicylidene hydrazino)-s-Triazinern(TSHSTZ) was synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction between 1-(2-hydroxyrnbenzylidene) hydrazine (HBH) and cyanuric chloride in 3:1 mole ratio. The precursor 1-rn(2-hydroxy benzylidene) hydrazine (HBH) was prepared in early stage of the ligandrnpreparation by simple shiff base condensation reaction between salicylaldehyde andrnhydrazine sulfate. The ligand (TSHSTZ) behaves as a dibasic ONN donor towards Ni(II)rnand tri basic tris-ONN donor towards Zn(II) .The Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes of thernligand(TSHSTZ) were synthesized by using 1:3 ligand to metal mole ratio inrnchloroform/Methanol medium. The ligand and complexes were investigated by NMR, IR,rnUV-Vis and AAS techniques. Furthermore, conductivity and magnetic susceptibilityrnmeasurements were carried out for the complexes. Ring nitrogen as well as the bridgingrnnitrogen of hydrazine in TSHSTZ were proposed as metal binding centers. The AAS datarnreveals 1:3 ligand to metal ratio for Zn (II) complex, where as 1:1 ligand to metal ratiornfor Ni (II) complex. Conductivity measurement tells that both the complexes are nonelectrolytesrnand Magnetic moment of Ni(2.83B.M) indicates octahedral geometry forrnNi(II) complex and NMR data ,in addition to other spectroscopic data together withrnacetate test and conductance result suggest tetrahedral geometry for Zn(II) complex.rnKey words: cyanuric chloride, salicylaldhyde, hydrazine sulfate,1-(2-hydroxyrnbenzylidene) hydrazine, rnKey words: cyanuric chloride, salicylaldhyde, hydrazine sulfate,1-(2-hydroxyrnbenzylidene) hydrazine, 2, 4, 6-tris (N-Salicylidene hydrazino)-s-TriazinernZn(II) complex, Ni(II) complex.
