Pastoral Counseling Services In Some Selected E.o.t.c Of Addis Ababa

The main objective of the study is to show pastoral counseling service in three selected E.O.T.C. Service of pastoral counseling, the awareness that both counselors and counselees have towards the service, the counseling service and its challenge, the effectiveness of the service in the church and related issues were discussed .Primary data were collected from a sample of 60 church fathers and 60 laities who are using church counseling (because the communication is done only one to one). Researcher used both qualitative and quantitative research approach. Questionnaire was used as main tool for data collection and datas were analyzed using SPSS V.20. The major findings of the study showed that even if the counseling pscychology are not yet practiced in the church, there was pastoral counseling service which the church used from the very beginning of the Christian era. The response from the laities showed that, there was good outlook for the counseling service and witness for the soul fathers or counselors. In addition to this, there was also a fertile ground in the church for the counseling service with the exceptions of lack of counseling office and modern counseling process. Hence, in addition to Biblical and spiritual counseling, church fathers have to incorporate the scientific counseling service to alleviate the problem of the counselee. Many of the church fathers and laities believed using pastoral counseling interactively with the modern counseling service can creat a good relief for the peole, so in order to save others and offering them a good solution, the church has to arrange the program with the scholars to create a good awareness for the pastoral counseling activities. In addition, the church has to open office in church and elect those who are able to understand theology with modern counseling psychology to create a relief for the people.
