Merits of planar antennas make them a potential candidate for the field of communication inrnMicrowave application. This thesis presents performance comparison of Coplanar /Micro striprnpatch Antenna for microwave X-band, S-band and C-band applications using coplanarrnwaveguide feed technique. As coplanar waveguide feeding has wider bandwidth and highrnradiation efficiency it could be applicable in many X- band, S-band and C- band applications. rnrnThe substrate applied in the design process for both coplanar and microstrip patch antenna isrnFR4 Epoxy Glass, which has relative permittivity of 4.4 and substrate height 1.6mm. Antennarnmeasurements such as, bandwidth efficiency, radiation pattern and radiation efficiency arernconducted and the performances are compared. Antenna simulations have been performed byrnusing Ansoft HFSS TM V13.0, which is a Finite Element Method (FEM) based electromagneticrnsolver. Simulation results are presented in terms of Resonant Frequency Return Loss, RadiationrnPattern and the antenna Gain.rnrnIt has been found that microstrip patch antennas have lower return loss and are more directivernthan coplanar patch antenna. The simulated results have also shown that coplanar patch antennasrnhave high radiation efficiency and comprises of a wider bandwidth as compared to a microstriprnpatch antennas. The radiation efficiency obtained for microstrip patch antenna ranges fromrn82.342% to 89.231% and that for coplanar patch antenna is 92.31% to 98.78%. Meanwhile, therndirectivity for microstrip patch antenna ranges from 5.352dB to 7.65dB and that for a coplanarrnpatch antenna is 2.79dB to 5.69dB.
