This dissertation presents the contribution of the Financial Institutions in the capacityrnbuilding as well as project financing of the domestic construction firms which arerninvolving in the infrastructure development activities of the country.rnThe main objective of this paper is therefore to present preliminary assessment reportrnregarding the role of domestic banks for the development of the construction sectorrnespecially in capacity building and project financing of the domestic construction firms inrnEthiopia.rnOne of the main observations of this research work has been the fact that the EthiopiarnConstruction Industry seriously lacks capable construction firms (Financially as well asrnTechnically and Managerially). That is why multimillion birr worth infrastructurerndevelopment projects are being awarded to foreign construction companies.rnThe study had developed through literature survey and in addition to this questionnairernbased studies were made to provide an overview of the various financial services andrnfacilities that a certain domestic construction firm could obtain from local banks andrninterviews were also conducted with various parties which have direct involvement inrnconstruction activities to strengthen the ideas of the subject matter.rnFinally the results of the study were analyzed and discussed. In addition to this,rnconclusions are made and recommendations are forwarded based on the analysisrnresults.
