The age of information brought lots of opportunity to the global economy. E-government is onernof the potential advantages of Information and Communication Technology. E-government isrndefined as the delivery of government services and information to the public using electronicrnmeans. Among many of the e-government services, vital event registration application, which isrncharacterized as Public-Interface Services Application (PISA), is the main e-governmentrnapplication for the provision of e-government related services and information to the public atrnlarge. Vital event registration is the systematic, continuous, permanent, compulsory andrnuniversal recording of the occurrence and characteristics of vital events (live births, deaths, fetalrndeaths, marriages, and divorces) and other civil status events pertaining to the population asrnprovided by decree, law or regulation, in accordance with the legal requirements in each country.rnThis project aimed to develop Enhanced Electronic Vital Events Registration System forrnEthiopia, which can handle the five (birth, death, marriage, divorce, and adoption) major vitalrnevents. To address the problem a web-based application which handles birth, death, marriage,rndivorce, and adoption is developed. The application serves both in Amharic and English. Thernsystem is designed in such a way to be accessible via the Internet. Customers have access basedrnon their privilege level. The system enables registration, update of individual records, generatingrnreports based on the demand of the customer, issuance of certificates and index cards uponrnregistration of events, certification of vital events documents, and viewing of individual recordsrnfor special customers such as court. Object oriented software engineering and ASP.NET 3.5rnplatform is employed to develop the project.
