Security in Wireless LAN technology is evolving from time to time. This progress can be easily visualized by recounting the success stories achieved through the years since the modification of its first security protocol, WEP, then the WPA and finally the WPA2. In spite of this improvement, there are still weaknesses that need protocol level modification. One such example is the Hole 196 vulnerability which was discovered in 2010. This vulnerability is inherent in the WPA/WPA2 security protocols design and can be used for several serious insider attacks as it allows authenticated clients to misuse the Group Temporal Key (GTK) to attack other clients. rnSo this thesis proposes an enhancement to the IEEE 802.11i security protocol to address the Hole 196 vulnerability. rnKeywords: IEEE 802.11i Security, WLANs security, GTK security, Hole 196 vulnerability
