Micro strip patches antenna are playing an important role in wireless communication systemsrnbecause of their many advantages like light weight, low profile, low cost, easy integration withrnplanar structure and easy fabrication. So, it is verymuch essential to knowall the aspects of micrornstrip antennas. The main objective of this thesis is to discuss the design and performancernissues of micro strip patch array antennas. The design issues include micro strip antenna dimensions, rnfeeding techniques and various polarizationmechanisms whereas the performancernissues include return loss, bandwidth issues directivity and radiation pattern of micro striprnpatch array antennas. In this thesis, a micro strip fed patches antenna array for long termrnevolution (LTE) application is designed using the MATLAB software. To design it, Standard formulasrnare used to calculate different parameters of the antenna. After design the array, somernparameters are varied during simulation to get good performances. The proposed antenna isrndesigned to work at 2.6GHz frequency band. A fractional bandwidth of 4.25%, which was notrnclose to the desired 10% and a directivity of 4.66dB were attained single patch antenna. Thisrnmay have been brought about by poor impedance matching and a high level of spurious feedrnradiation and surface waves. A way of improving the bandwidth, radiation pattern and minimizernthe return losswould have been expected for effective communication. To achieve this requirementrnwe are designed (4x1) rectangular micro strip patch array antennas with micro striprnline feeding based on quarter wave impedance matching technique using Mat lab software.rnThe performance of the designed antenna is then compared with the single patch rectanglernantenna in term of return loss, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), bandwidth, directivity, rnradiation pattern. After carried out computer simulation, rectangular micro strip patch arrayrnantenna offers the highest bandwidth efficiency of (as high as 12.5%), somewhat good directivityrn(9.66dB), minimum return loss (as low as -11.5dB) and has good radiation pattern. Thisrnis a fairly high though directivity increase and minimize loss could have been studied throughrnuse of different substrate material and thickness. The array antenna can be fabricate on thernsubstrate type FR-4 with dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6mm respectively.rnKeywords: Rectangular Micro strips Array antenna, long term evolution (LTE), return loss andrnmicro strip feed line.
