The purpose of this study was to identify or find out problems of implementing geographyrnsyllabus in secondary school in Bekcji senior secondary school. Attempts were also madernto screen some factors that negatively affect geography instruction.rnThe study used a qualitative .ca-se study desig~n, to understand the problem. The main datarncollection instruments were open observations, structured and semi-structuredrninterviews, document analysis and informal talks.rnGenerally, the data for this study was collected from 14 informants among these 8rnstudents from grade 9-12, four male and 4 female those are high achievers, 3 geographyrnteachers those have better performance, one department head, one school vice directorrnand one librarian.rnThe findings indicated that the curriculum is feasible and up-to-date in content. But therncontents and the time allotment to cover the contents do not coincided each other. Thus,rnit is impossible to cover the contents with in a given academic time. Moreover, teachersrnfail to use different teaching methods while they present their lesson. Thus, almost allrnteachers frequently used lecture method. Hence fieldwork is totally ignored from methodrnof instruction. The results of the study also showed that teachers fail to ask questionsrnfrequently. But rarely ask questions during explanation which encourage rote memory forrncorrect . responses and questions those encourage' critical thinking were ignoredrnMoreover the study depicted that lack of professionals and material resources are seriousrnproblems of the school. In addition to this the study proved that, large class size, lack ofrnreference books, lack of school facilities, lack of guidance and counseling service arernconsiderable constraints of instructional activities. The study again displayed that waysrnof assessment and negative (low) interest and attitude of teachers towards the teachingrnprofession were considered as major obstacles of geography instruction.rnFinally, based on these findings and conclusions, related recommendations regarding thernimprovement of professional manpower and the provision of the necessary instructionalrnmaterials were forwarded
