This study examines the magnitude of the problems of students' dropping outrnin TVET Colleges. The conducted empirical study focused on TVET dropouts inrnthree selected public TVET colleges of Addis Ababa city government, AddisrnAbaba in 2007/08-2008/09. 103 dropouts, 111 teachers, and 6 deans andrnacademic deans were selected for the study. In regard, to this, Stratified,rnconvenience and purposive sampling techniques were employed for teachers,rndropouts, and deals and academic deans respectively. Data were obtainedrnfrom questionnaires, documentary analysis, and the sampled TVET colleges'rnregistrars. All the respondents completed and returned the respectivernquestionnaires p repared (for dropouts in Amharic and in English for teachers'rnand deans and academic deans). According to the analysis of the causes ofrndropout, institutional factors are found to be highly influential. Depending onrnthe results of the findings, assuring employability of trainees, relevantrncurriculum design to the world of worlc, enhancing attractiveness of TVETrnprograms, recruiting competent qualified teachers in sufficient amount,rnensuring a balanced expansion of TVET institutions are some of the Iceyrnrecommendations fonvarded by the participants to reduce dropout.
